Today we left to go on a little class overnight “field trip” –haha I guess we can call it that. We got up early to leave for Strattford-upon-Avon. On the way we stopped at Coventry Cathedral. There are still the ruins of the old Coventry cathedral that was bombed during WWII
This is a picture of Coventry ruins
Right next to the ruins is the new cathedral – it is a lot more modern looking but it has some pretty awesome stained glass windows!
this is a picture of me in front of Coventry’s biggest stained glass window.
We only had a few minutes to look around then it was back on the bus again. We stopped at Kenilworth Castle. This was a cool place! I love Castle ruins! SO MUCH!! There is still beautiful gardens around back of the castle too! And we got a big group picture here as well with the whole program so that was fun.
After some time there we went back onto the but to our next destination which was Warwick Castle. This is another old castle that is not all ruins but some still intact enough to make something of it- I guess haha. Well someone decided to make something of it cause Warwick castle has been made into sort of an amusment park-ish kind of feel. It was actually pretty lame- haha there just wasn’t enough to do for how long we had there I guess. Oh and is we were all part of the ‘Quill and Sword’ club we would have probably found it a little cooler- haha. But there were some really interesting things there. Like a birds of prey show- the bald eagles were HUGE!!! Plus there was a Trebuchet (did I spell that right? I think so! Wow) which is a mideval weapon that is really big and slings very big stones and such at enemies and castles etc. so we got to see them shoot that off which was neat.
We then drove the restof the way to Strattford-upon-avon, and checked into our bed and breakfast. Yep that’s right! They were actually really nice! Such a quaint cute little town and we stayed in these nice B&B’s. I very much enjoyed this little trip of ours! Then We went out to a pub and got some fish and chips for dinner.
I think these ones get second place that I have had so far- with the 1st place being the fish and chips I got in Ireland – they win by a long shot! But these were still good.
Tonight we went to the Theatre (surprised eh?) and we saw A Winters Tale it was a VERY interesting production. I was really surprised by the concept. There was a very interesting theme of paper that ran throughout the whole show. At the beginning there were two huge bookcases up stage left and upstage right. And after the 1st Act the bookcases tipped forward and all of the books came toppling off of the shelves- there was then a whirlwind of papers strewn about all over the stage as a storm type of scene was portrayed. ( I am sure you all want to know this- haha) It was really interesting. Then – HA! This is funny to me. SO Shakespeare doesn’t use many stage directions . just simple exits and entrances and that’s pretty much it. So the play Winters Tale is pretty popular for one line of stage directions that Shakespeare included. It goes: “exit, persued by a bear” -yeah it is also totally random, who knows where the bear came from – maybe Shakespeare threw that in there to wake the audience up- who knows. Anyway the real point to me telling you all of this is that the director/designers decided to keep with the theme/concept that they were establishing and they made the bear out of paper! When it came on I was thinking to myself – huh? What the heck is that!? It was kind of funny. Went back to the B&B and I think that that is pretty much it for todays activities.
